Holtz and M. Nebel The Satisficing Model (Nebel 2011) Satisficing is a classic strategy in the decision-making literature ([19]) that forms an alternative to optimizing strategies and goes back to Herbert Simon ([20], [21]). In this concept alternatives are evaluated sequentially, in the order in which they appear in the choice set. “Instead of hopelessly searching for the best” ([22], p. 17) a decision maker continues seeking a solution only until he finds one that is “good enough” ([23]). The satisficing model version uses a multidimensional aspiration level as a basis for evaluating different land-use patterns.
Nature 393, 440–442 (1998) 29. : Netlogo. In: cCL and Computer-Based Modeling. de Abstract. Two empirically grounded agent-based models of agricultural landuse change are presented and compared with respect to factors driving groundwater use. The models are identical in most aspects, but one model uses a utility-approach to represent farmers’ decision-making, while the other uses satisficing. The model-comparison exercise helps to distinguish substantial from implementation-dependent conclusions drawn from the model(s), and confirms the importance of model robustness tests.
