But insitutional rather than relation identity formation even for the jocks and thespians presumes a personal relational distance in favor of the apparatus, even when it is of ‘positive’ valence, ‘cranking up school spirit’ through good kid athletics. The rads are negatively linked to the apparatus, and further out on the perimeter, it is easier for them to articulate the derivative process of identity relation that I call ‘reified’ or ‘alienated’. The teachers don’t care you know, AND SO, neither do we.

Indeed, the identities that we observe are what I would call ‘reifications’, abstractions that blot out their ongoing interactional basis so that we see only an end result rather than the process of collective creation. Oftentimes, students and teachers recognize the interactional lack and derivative character of their relations.

I think that the friends that I have kept throughout the years are still my good friends. They still accept me for what I am, plus I have made more. It makes a big difference as how you see yourself, I see myself as better than last year so I think of myself as doing a better job.
