Make your peace with your own style. The negotiating process should arrive at some conclusions. It is highly desirable to put into writing what has been agreed. These may or may not be the specific terms of call. It may be preferable for the terms of call to be general and purposely vague. But if that is the case, there should be a separate letter in your files from the chairperson of the search committee that specifically itemizes what was agreed to. Some people may think it a violation of trust to require this in writing, but on the other hand documentation was helpful in researching a pastorate, and documentation may be helpful in developing a pastoral relationship.

It treats decisionmaking not as the flipping of a coin but as a process.
